ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan has launched its nationwide “Go Cashless” campaign ahead of Eidul Azha 2026 to promote safe and convenient digital transactions in cattle markets across the country.

The initiative, introduced under the Digital Pakistan vision, aims to reduce reliance on cash transactions and encourage the use of digital payment methods during the busy Eid trading season.

According to the central bank, cattle markets witness massive economic and commercial activity every year during Eidul Azha, with most transactions traditionally conducted in cash. In view of the large transaction volume, the SBP has been promoting digital financial inclusion in these seasonal markets over recent years.

Building on the success of previous campaigns, the central bank said the initiative has been significantly expanded in 2026. While 54 cattle markets participated last year, the number has increased to 96 this year.

Under the “Go Cashless” campaign, 22 partner banks will establish special camps and kiosks at designated cattle markets to facilitate buyers and sellers. The banks will also assist livestock traders, transporters and service providers in opening accounts and adopting QR code-based payment systems.

To support increased transaction activity during Eid, the SBP has temporarily relaxed transaction and account balance limits from May 14 to June 5, 2026.

The central bank further said mobile banking vans, ATMs and cash deposit machines would also be deployed in and around cattle markets to improve access to financial services wherever possible.

The SBP urged the public to use mobile banking applications and the Raast digital payment system to avoid risks associated with carrying cash and to help ensure transparency and security in financial transactions.
