KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will start issuing new currency notes to banks from July 2 to tackle their high demand during Ramazan and for celebration of Eidul Fitr.
According to the SBP, all the branches of commercial banks will start delivering fresh notes to general public from the same day. However, for obtaining fresh currency notes, the general public would be required to show their original computerised national identity card/ smart card, and each member of public will be entertained once.
In 2014, the State Bank had reportedly issued fresh currency notes worth Rs154 billion. Issuance of fresh notes will be made as per quota to general public through 150 branches of commercial banks designated as Select Branch in major cities as express centres for issuance of fresh notes under the supervision of the officials of SBP BSC.
In addition to this, special quota for fresh notes has also been issued to all commercial banks for provision of fresh notes to their regular clients.
“Under these arrangements, one packet each of Rs10, Rs20 and Rs50 will be issued to each member of general public while, fresh notes of Rs100 will be issued as per stock availability,” said the SBP.
