ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan, dismissing the appeal filed by Customs authorities, has directed the authorities concerned to remove Ayyan Ali’s name from the exit control list (ECL).
Earlier, the Sindh High Court had ordered Ayyan’s name to be removed from the ECL after which Customs authorities and the Ministry of Interior filed four applications in the Supreme Court. However, the decision of the Sindh High Court was upheld by the Supreme Court who issued orders for Ayyan’s name to be removed from the ECL.
Ayyan Ali was arrested under Anti-Money Laundering Act in 2015 when an amount of $506,800 was recovered from her luggage at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad. The Customs officials produced her before a Special Customs Court Rawalpindi which sent her to Rawalpindi’ Adiala Jail. Later, the court accepted her bail application after four months besides returning her travel documents against a surety and a guarantee.
