SC directs Establishment secretary to issue promotion order of Customs official

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Establishment secretary to issue promotion notification of Umar Farooq, an officer of Pakistan Custom.

A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the case and remarked that no one will be allowed to defy court orders.

The case, pending for last eight months, is about the delay in issuance of promotion order of Umar Farooq.

Justice Azmat Saeed said “There is much capacity in Adiala Jail. No one will be allowed to defy court’s orders”.

The Establishment Division secretary was summoned repeatedly but he did not turn up to file the response, the SC judge said while expressing displeasure over non-appearance of the Secretary.

The court ordered the Attorney General to ensure the issuance of promotion order within 48 hours.
