SC issues notice to NAB on after arrest petition in KPT fraud case

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (Karachi Registry) issued notices to officials of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and prosecutor on a after arrest bail petition of co-accused Muhammad Ismail, who was arrested in a NAB reference fraud in Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

On August 8, 2019, a three-member bench, comprising Justice Faisal Arab, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Munib Aktar heard the matter.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner argued that his client is innocent and has falsely been arrested and confined in jail since June 2018, therefore, court may grant his bail.

During the hearing, Amjad Ali Shah, deputy prosecutor general NAB waved the notice and argued that he is ready to submit his argument because case is very clear and some of suspects’ bail petitions already have been dismissed by the court.

According to the NAB reference which is pending before NAB court that suspects illegal allotted Karachi Port Trust Housing Society’s precious property without lawful authority and due to their illegal act, national exchequer losses more than Rs11 billion.

NAB prosecutor submitted that reference has been filed in which NAB has recommended for including name of Kamran Michal, former minister for Port and Shipping.

After the hearing, court directed NAB authority to make ensure filing its comments on next date of hearing.
