SC issues notices to officials of KPT & others on contempt petition filed by ex-employees

KARACHI: A division bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed secretary Ministry of Port and Shipping high officials of Karachi Port Trust and deputy attorney general to file their comprehensive parawise comments for next date of hearing on contempt petition filed by ex-employees Rasool Bakhsh Shar seeking his back date benefits.

On 22 December 2020, a two-member bench, comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Qasim Muhammad Amin Ahmed heard the contempt application at Karachi Registry.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner argued that Supreme Court had directed to high officials of PMBQ to release his back date benefits and pension, however, despite of several orders passed by Supreme Court, high officials of the Karachi Port Trust are not complaining, therefore, the court may start contempt proceedings against them.

He further argues that counsel served 14 years to Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and after that 20 years served Korangi Fish Harbor and court had directed respondents to pay all dues to the petitioner.

Citing Ministry Port and Shipping, chairman Karachi Port Trust and others as respondents, the petitioner pleaded the court may direct them to pay all dues immediately and the court also may start contempt proceedings against them.

After the hearing, the court directed Secretary Ministry of Port and Shipping, Chairman Karachi Port Trust and others to file their comments for the next date of hearing. Court adjourned the matter for Dec 24, 2020.
