SC orders to use Urdu as official language still await enforcement

ISLAMABAD: Urdu as the official language declared by the Supreme Court still awaits enforcement at the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) secretariat and regional offices.

The FTO officials said that implementing Urdu as the official language along with English had proven a challenge for the secretariat which is still striving to execute the SC orders in letter and spirit.

English is still the medium of communication, officials said, adding that a resolve had to be shown to implement the orders in its entirety.

Though there had not been shown high interest describing the efforts to execute the order since the matter had been put on the back burner.

However, FTO office had earlier tried its level best to fully implement the order and transform the entire official communication to Urdu along with English.

It is pertinent to mention that FTO secretariat had organized a number of training and coaching sessions for the purpose during 2015.

FTO employees, mainly Assistant Private Secretaries and stenographers had taken part in these training workshops.
