CHARLESTON: Members of the board of the South Carolina Ports Authority are getting an update on plans to build a $3 billion container ship terminal with the Georgia ports.
Representatives of the consulting firm of Moffat and Nichol will be briefing South Carolina board members on the progress of the project in Charleston on Wednesday.
The two states are working together to develop the 1,500-acre Jasper Ocean Terminal on the South Carolina side of the Savannah river just downstream from Savannah.
The joint board comprised of representatives from both states hopes to apply for an Army Corps of Engineers permit for the port this year. And while time schedules can change, the plan is for the terminal to be permitted and operating in 15 years.
