SCCI plans to develop “the knowledge city” under supervision of NUST

SIALKOT: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has chalked out a plan to develop export-oriented Sialkot city now as “the knowledge city” under the direct supervision of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad and National Textile University (NTU) Faisalabad, as the pace of the practical work has been jazzed for establishing the resident campuses of NUST and NTU at Sialkot.

President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Majid Raza Bhutta told the newsmen that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already approved the project of establishing these two campuses at Sialkot here.

SCCI President added that both of these universities were also preparing the special courses including fabric manufacturing, textile, garments designing, leather and composite  material design for the export-oriented industries of Sialkot , keeping in the view the present demands and future needs of Sialkot’s sports goods, surgical instruments, leather, leather garments, textile  and other industries, as these specially designed courses would also be helpful to flourish the Sialkot industries on modern lines besides ensuring the early and smooth provision of the advanced manufacturing technologies to more than a century old Sialkot industries.

SCCI President revealed that federal government would soon give “go ahead” to establish the resident campuses of NUST and NTU universities at Sialkot with state-of-the-art laboratories.

“Both National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and National Textile University (NTU) have focused on the development of Sialkot industries, which were more than a century old, on modern lines by ensuring the early provision of advanced manufacturing technologies to Sialkot industries as well”, narrated SCCI President.

Both of these campuses would be established on 150 acres of land each near Sialkot international standard under the direct supervision of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), in active collaboration with the federal government for providing the international standard quality education of engineering, science and technology to the local students at local level, besides, paving the ways to provide the skilled work force to the Sialkot industries as well.

“we have as many as 500 acres of land available near Sialkot international airport for establishing the separate resident campuses of NUST and NTU at Sialkot there on the special  directives of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif”, he added.

SCCI President Majid Raza Bhutta added that now it was a great vision of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) to develop export-oriented Sialkot city now as “Sialkot…the knowledge city” as well.

He said that the federal government would spend Rs.4 billion on the establishment of NUST campus at Sialkot, besides, spending Rs. 3 billion on the establishment of NTU campus at Sialkot.
