BRENT: Scientists appear to have discovered a volcanic structure on the Moon unlike anything found on the lunar surface.
Writing in a study that was accepted Thursday for publication in Geophysical Research Letters, a publication of the American Geophysical Union, researchers said the structure was spotted on the Moon’s south pole. Known as Mafic Mound, it stands about 2,600 feet tall and 47 miles across and lies in the middle of a giant impact crater known as the South Pole-Aitken Basin.
