Scientists working to devise mango production tech

MULTAN: The Pakistani scientists are working to further improve mango production through latest technology.

Mango Research Institute (MRI) Multan Director Mushtaq Ahmad Alvi, speaking at a seminar, said that researchers of MRI and Mango Research Station (MRS) Shujabad are researching to devise a modern mango production technology.

Alvi said that ongoing research was focused at improving the production technology to meet food requirements of mango plants, enable them maintain good health and improve quality and nutritional value of the fruit. He said that Pakistani mangoes carry exceptional qualities like unique aroma, best taste and good nutritional value and the on-going research would further improve these qualities in addition to introducing new mango varieties.

Alvi urged the scientists to move forward with research while keeping in view all aspects and phases of mango production. Experts who had attended the 11th international mango symposium at Darwin in Australia in Sep 2015 also shared information with the orchard owners.

A retired mango researcher from MRS Shujabad, Chaudhry Abdul Haq, donated 35 books for library of Mango research Institute (MRI) Multan.
