SHETLAND: The rigid inflatable boat (RIB) of the Sam Simon, belonging to the conservation group Sea Shepherd, has been detained by the Scottish authorities while in Lerwick harbour.
Over recent weeks the controversial environmentalists have been involved in disrupting the annual pilot whales drive in the Faroe Islands, known as the Grind.
On Tuesday the group confirmed via social media that the small boat had been seized at the request of the Danish authorities.
A short statement said: “We are still receiving updates from our crews on the ground.
“However, we understand the seizure has been made in relation to the slaughter of 61 pilot whales at Sandavágur on 12 August, and our crew’s fierce defence of those lives.”
