SDPT handles 528,320 tonne of cargo in one month

SIALKOT: Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) recorded movement of 528,320 tonne of cargo from August 15, 2016 to September 15, 2016, including 207,880 tonne of import-oriented consignments and 320,440 tonne of export-oriented consignments.

The dry port handled 578,346 tonne of cargo during the said period of the last year. The traders imported leather and raw material for soccer balls, surgical instruments etc.

The traders exported sports goods, leather garments, gloves and other sports and leather industrial related items and cutlery products through Sialkot Dry Port Trust.

The Model Customs Collectorate, Sialkot cleared the consignments, which will be sent abroad by sea from Karachi, after receiving import duty and other charges as per customs law.

Sialkot Customs Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro, who deal with import and export matters at the dry port said that the import of leather and raw material was increasing day by day, as the export of ready products was also increasing. He added that small medium enterprises were also playing their role to boost the exports from the regions.

Customs Inspector Sheikh Ikram said that the import and export at SDPT were not decreasing rather it was increasing that is an achievement of Sialkot Customs, adding that the traders were cooperating with the department to earn foreign exchange.
