SDPT Chairman Khawar Anwar Khawaja, while addressing an important meeting said that it had always remained an eminent tradition of the port to serve and facilitate the industries of Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat. He revealed that the fuel forms a substantial portion of overall cost of logistic expense, a part of which (sales tax on fuel) is refundable by virtue of law i.e. Rs. 29.57 per liter diesel. For instance, if 425 liters of diesel is consumed for an export consignment then Rs 12,567 (29.57 X 425) is refundable on account of sales tax refund by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) because exports are zero-rated for sales tax purpose.
