LONDON: Former NASA scientist James Hansen and now an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Earth Institute has termed his latest research paper may be his most important research papers. In this research paper, he has worked with 16 other researchers to highlight the condition of rapid sea-level rise and more severe storms.
As per the researchers, 2 degrees Celsius global warming, an international target to limit global warming, is quite dangerous. The study researchers have unveiled that ice loss level is on rise in different parts of the planet.
One of the study researchers, Eric Rignot of NASA, has affirmed that ice loss in West Antarctica could become irreversible. The researchers have warned that West Antarctica could face the double time for ice loss could be 10 years. Double time is the period in which the amount of ice loss could double.
“If the ocean continues to accumulate heat and increase melting of marine-terminating ice shelves of Antarctica and Greenland, a point will be reached at which it is impossible to avoid large scale ice sheet disintegration”, affirmed the researchers, who affirmed that in this situation sea level rise would be at least several meters.
