PESHAWAR: The local traders have urged the government to provide foolproof security at the provincial capital city’s largest fruit and vegetable market known as Inqilab Sabzi Mandi.
They said that the Inqilab Sabzi Mandi located in the outskirts area of Peshawar was not safe as the traders and merchants had been receiving calls from extortionists demanding huge money.
Speaking at a press conference, All Pakistan Agriculture Produce Traders Federation president Malik Sohni said that robbers had also made their lives miserable. As the business of fruits and vegetables start before dawn and traders have to reach the market in the wee hours, robbers often loot them at gunpoint, he said.
The press conference was also attended by Merchants Association president Pir Ali Marjan and vice-president Ghuncha Gul. Sohni demanded of the government to establish a full-fledged police checkpost and ensure patrolling of police mobile at the market and surrounding areas to ensure safety and protection to them.
He said that the Inqilab vegetable and fruit market was the main point in Peshawar for exporting food items, which had been playing an important role in boosting trade with neighbouring Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.
