Security, vigilance of Customs to be enhanced at AFU to foil smuggling bids

KARACHI: The security and vigilance at Air Freight Unit (AFU) is being further beefed up in order to thwart smuggling of different items in order to save national exchequer, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that Collector Preventive Dr Saifuddin Junejo has received information that some unscrupulous elements would try to smuggling electronic items, including branded cellular phones, laptops, tablets and others in coming days.

The sources informed that Dr Junejo has called Additional Collector Syed Muhammad Asad Raza and asked him to take immediate measures in order to increase the strength of customs officials at AFU to make the surveillance more effective and strict.

dditional Collector Syed Muhammad Asad Raza has asked the deputy collectors and assistant collectors to increase the numbers of preventive officers and Senior Preventive Officers (SPOs) at AFU, so that any attempt of smuggling could be halted timely.
