WASHINGTON: Gartner has revised down its worldwide semiconductor revenue forecast for 2016, predicting a decline of 0.9 percent from the year before to USD 332 billion. However, the figure would be an improvement on the previous year’s decline of 2.3 percent and the researcher said the outlook for the semiconductor market is now more positive thanks to inventory replenishment and increasing average selling prices (ASPs) in select markets. Key electronic equipment markets have bottomed and stabilised, which has contributed to the stronger outlook, and in some markets, most notably smartphones and video game consoles, production estimates have been revised up for 2016, said Gartner.
