Senate body for improvement in precious stone mining, export

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing committee on Industries and Production has directed Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) to improve its performance in mining and selling of precious stones in the world market.

Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Company CEO Bakhtiar Khan informed the Senate body that Pakistan exports gold worth $4 billion annually, adding, “The country exports 170 tonnes of gemstones.”

Matter of supply of electricity to Marble City Risalpur was also discussed in detail. Committee was informed that the cost of electricity supply to the Marble City is Rs125 million. PASDEC has deposited Rs86 million and a temporary connection of 2MW has been provided. The members were informed that out of total 12 towers three belong to army and 3 to NHA.

Senate Committee Chairman Hidayatullah pointed out that due to absence of inputs five hundred factories have been shut. Chief Peshawar Electric Supply Company said that if PASDEC settles the matter with army and NHA electricity could be provided next day. Committee directed the Military Land and National Highway Authority director general to pursue supply of electricity to Risalpur Marble City. He said military land department and NHA should write letters to concerned authorities and ensure timely supply of electricity to the Marble City.
