Senate body to be briefed on NBP embezzlement issue

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatisation would be briefed on Thursday, January 5, by National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on the alleged embezzlement of Rs1.5 billion committed in the NBP from the accounts of Abandoned Properties Organization (APO).

The meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held here on Thursday under the Chairmanship of Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, according to Senate Secretariat notification. The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) is also scheduled to brief the committee on its role, functions and responsibilities while the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) will brief the committee on the sale of 40 percent strategic shares to a Chinese consortium.

According to the notification, the committee would also consider a public petition submitted by one Muhammad Mubashir Iqbal regarding the payment of pension to all old-age and ailing pensioners on their behalf on production of authority letter. The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) would also brief the committee on the tender of One Flight Kitchen at Islamabad Airport while the Ministry of Finance will brief on current status of the working paper submitted by the CCP on to amend its act.
