WASHINGTON: The Senate passed a bill this month to criminalize the importation of illegal pesticides into the Commonwealth. Senate Bill 19-70 says the importation of illegal pesticides must be criminalized in order to protect and safeguard the health and safety of the people of the Commonwealth.
The bill amends a provision in Commonwealth code to add “illegal pesticides” to a list of contraband items that makes it illegal for any person to knowingly enter the Commonwealth with the intent to import these items, or attempt to cause another to bring or import into the Commonwealth, or conceal for the purpose of importation these items. The Senate passed the bill by unanimous vote on first and final reading on Dec. 11.
