MULTAN: In a significant development, a senior customs officer has expressed serious concerns regarding the recruitment process conducted by the Collectorate of Customs in Multan. The issue came to light through a letter from Ansir Anise, Chairperson of the Department Selection Committee (DSC), addressed to the Chief Collector Center, highlighting irregularities in the shortlisting of candidates for various posts ranging from grade 1 to 15.

The Chief Collector’s office established the DSC on July 12, 2024, with Ansir Anise appointed as Chairperson for grades 1 to 10. In her correspondence, she detailed that the Collectorate of Customs Appraisement Faisalabad had independently conducted fitness tests, including running and push-ups, for the position of Sepoy from August 13 to 22, 2024. Furthermore, the Collectorate has reportedly shortlisted candidates for driver positions following written and skill assessments.

However, Anise pointed out that the DSC was not involved in the shortlisting process, nor were the criteria for selection shared with the committee. She also noted that the DSC had not received results for the Sepoy and driver positions, contrary to the directives issued by the Board.

Sources reveal that the recruitment process was supervised by Collector Asdaq Afzal Sensera of Customs Appraisement. It has come to light that a driver, who is described as a “blue-eyed” individual associated with Asdaq Afzal, also applied for a position within the Customs. This driver is currently on deputation at the Collectorate from the Federal Public Service Commission.

In a related development, it is noteworthy that the Establishment Division has transferred Asif Hargon to the position of Joint Secretary at the Finance Division, raising further questions about the integrity of the recruitment process.

The situation continues to unfold, as concerns about transparency and adherence to recruitment protocols in the Customs department come to the forefront.
