Seven held in Tamil Nadu for smuggling liquor from Goa

GOA: The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police have arrested seven people, including four women, for smuggling Indian-made foreign liquors (IMFL) from Goa to Tamil Nadu.

The accused have been identified as P Saravanan of Shevapet, K Sathiesh and T Babu of Ponnammapet, V Jayanthi, R Mathammal, S Vijaya, and V Kamala of Ammapet in Salem city.

Based on a tip-off, a team of police officials from Salem city PEW checked the passengers’ belongings who alighted from the Chennai-Mangalore express train at the railway station here on Monday evening. They recovered 109 bottles of liquor, worth Rs 2 lakh, from seven passengers.

Investigations revealed that the accused used to smuggle liquor from Goa to sell them in Tamil Nadu at higher rates.

A case was registered and further investigations were on. The accused were remanded in judicial custody.
