LAHORE: Shabbir Sharif has won the gross event of First All Pakistan Customs Golf Championship with an impressive score of gross 72 with a par round at Lahore Gymkhana Gold Course here the other day.
Shabbir dazzled with a rousing display of quality golf to score a fine victory. Behind the winner was Mohsen Zafar, who finished with a score of gross 76.
Punjab Governor Rafiq Ranjwana was the chief guest on the occasion and appreciated the skills and techniques of the notable performers during the play.
Another one who displayed great playing ability was in the net section, in handicap category zero to nine, Ahmed Zafar Hayat won the first net prize. His score carried an outstanding touch and the aggregate net was 69, three under par. The runner up net went to Jamal Nasir.
This golf event launched by Pakistan Customs, produced a few twists and turns in the seniors section also. The seniors’ event involves players in the 55 plus age category, yet the competitive fire is evident in the race for success and honors. Amongst the seniors the top performer in gross section was Javed A. Khan with a score of gross 77. Saeed Ahmed claimed the second gross prize, his score being 79. Performers in seniors net section were Asad Hameed (winner net) and Mehboob Alam (2nd net).
The dominant ones in the ladies section turned out to be Sameea Javaid Ali in ladies gross and Mina Zainab in ladies net. Sameea is the seasoned one while Mina is working hard to get established.
In the Invitational category, Maj Gen Umar Farooq Burki played superbly to top in the gross section. Syed Abid Hussain won the second gross and Agha Ali Imam became third. Net section winners were Brig Shahid Younis (first net), Shahnaz Moin (second net) and Brig Shahbaz Tabassum (third net).
