Shahbaz Sharif’s efforts lauded for eliminating polio

LAHORE: A delegation of international polio experts has called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and lauded his efforts in halting epidemic in the province.

The delegation, led by International Polio Plus Committee Chairman and Rotary Foundation Vice Chairman Michael McGovern, said that other provinces should also follow the unprecedented steps taken by the CM for elimination of polio.

The CM told the delegates that measures have been taken for elimination of polio from the province which has yielded positive results. He said that due to government efforts, Punjab has become a polio-free province, however, steps will continue to be taken in future regularly as well in this regard.

He said that an anti-polio task force has been formed in Punjab and all DCOs are members of this task force. He said that anti-polio national action plan is being implemented for providing polio-free environment to coming generations and a national strategy has been evolved in this regard. He said that collective efforts would have to be continued regularly for complete elimination of polio.

McGovern said that excellent work has been done for elimination of polio from Punjab under the leadership of the chief minister. He said that other provinces should also follow the unprecedented steps taken by Punjab for eradication of polio. He said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his entire team deserve appreciation for making Punjab a polio-free province. McGovern said that making Punjab a polio-free province is great success of Shahbaz.
