KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Directorate General of Customs Valuation to decide within a month the appeals, seeking review of new valuation rates of ceramic and porcelain tiles.

A division bench of SHC gave these directions while hearing the petitions filed by M/s Aman Enterprises, M/s The Cosmos, M/s FL Enterprises, and M/s The City against the Valuation Ruling No 758/2015.

The petitioners submitted that earlier the custom authorities valued their imported consignments of tiles under Valuation Ruling No.538/2013 which was more than two years old. When the tiles’ importers agitated against the old ruling and subsequently approached the high court against it, the customs authorities issued the fresh ruling.

They complained to the judges that the values determined under the fresh ruling are 20 to 25 percent high given the prices of tiles in the international market. They, therefore, requested the Court to set aside the ruling and order Pakistan Customs to issue another ruling determining the values of tiles as per their market prices.
