SHC directs NAB to file reference against Kamran Michael, ex-chairman KPT

KARACHI: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh and Justice Umer Sial directed investigation officer of NAB to make sure his presence before the court on next date of hearing and put up reference against suspects including former federal minister for ports and shipping Kamran Michael and others arrested for illegal allotment of KPT lands, getting huge bribe money and committing corrupt practices.

On 19 September 2019, during the hearing, director NAB Karachi and other officials appeared before the court and NAB prosecutor informed the court that due to some technical reasons, NAB court is not entertaining NAB reference which is fully prepared. Chief Justice observed that if concerns regarding NAB court are not resolved, NAB should submit a report to administrator of NAB courts in this regards.

According to the NAB officials, NAB Karachi had arrested Kamran Michael from Lahore as he was wanted in corruption case. He was charged for illegally getting three commercial and flat site plots of prime locations of KPT cooperative housing society (Mai Kolachi area) Karachi for his favourites, against which he received huge bribe money.

Court was informed that the former minister abused his authority by influencing the officials to carry out illegal orders of making allotments in 2013 and he remained minister for ports and shipping during 2013 to 2016.

NAB officials also informed that a corruption reference with respect to 16 such plots was already filed by NAB Karachi, in which evidence against Kamran Michael for receiving bribe was unearthed during further investigation in the case.
