SHC issues notice to Customs I&I officials in vehicle confiscation case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court’s Customs appellate bench issued notice to the officials of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations in a petition challenging confiscation of a Toyota X series car.

The bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial, issued notice to the Customs officials for Oct 4.

Fazal Subhan, who deals in US Immigration cases and a psychologist, was going to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Sept 11, 2017 with his wife Dr Fareeda, Gynaecologist who was called to attend an emergency case when DIT officials intercepted the vehicle.

The owners presented all documents including purchase papers, import documents, ABL Loan documents, on Line verification from Motor Vehicle Registration but they forcible took away the vehicle, submitted counsel Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate.

The act of respondents was in excess of authority and illegal as vehicle was duly purchased locally and all proof have been annexed with the petition, she contended.

The bench perusing the annexure and in view of submissions by the counsel for petitioner ordered issuance of notices against the respondents for Oct 4.
