SHC postpones hearing of 25 cases related to customs, income tax due to lawyers strike

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday postponed the hearing of cases on fourth consecutive day due to the boycott of lawyers on the call given Pakistan Bar Council against alleged kidnapping of Owais Ali Shah advocate, son of Chief Justice Sindh High Court (SHC), Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.

On Friday, the judges were informed that Pakistan Bar Council has announced full day strike against kidnapping of Owais Ali Shah advocate.

The representative of the Sindh High Court Bar Association requested the judges to discharge the cases, therefore courts postponed the hearing of more than 25 cases related to custom and income tax without any proceedings. The court proceedings remained suspended on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as well.

According to the roster, cases were fixed for hearing before a division bench, headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, customs and income tax related cases including those which were filed by M/s Al-Hamad Printers, M/s Waqas Traders, M/s Ron Don Enterprises, United Bank Ltd, and others.  Another SHC bench, comprising Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, cases were fixed for hearing including M/s Popular Sugar Mills Ltd, M/s KBS Steel Furnace, M/s Ilyas Steel Re-Rolling Mills, M/s Indus Contractor Pvt Ltd , M/s Aleem Can Pvt Ltd and others.
