SHC seeks comments from Customs Appellate Tribunal on smuggled parachute cloth

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed M/s Abdul Mannan and Ali Gul and the Customs Appellate Tribunal to file the comments regarding the alleged smuggling of foreign origin parachute cloth. Justice Munib Akhter was hearing the petition of Collector of Customs, Hyderabad.

Earlier, the applicant stated a customs team foiled an attempt of smuggling of foreign origin parachute cloth through a truck. During the examination, 11 bundles and 20 rolls of foreign origin parachute cloth were seized by the authorities.

However, the respondent filed an appeal before the Customs Appellate Tribunal which was accepted. The counsel said that the tribunal accepted the respondent’s request without considering the documents produced by the department and representatives at the time of hearing of the case. The court was requested to declare the impugned order passed by the tribunal as null and void.
