SHC seeks comments from FBR on plea filed by M/s Mahboob Steel

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court issued notices to Chairman FBR, Collector of Customs, and deputy attorney general directing them to file their comments on a application filed by M/s Mahboob Steel Pipe Industry seeking release of consignment of hot rolled steel coils/ strips of “prime quality”.

While hearing the application, the SHC division bench headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah directed the respondents to make sure the submission of their comments in the next hearing.

During the hearing, counsel of the petitioner stated that his client has imported fresh consignment of hot rolled steel coils/ strips of prime quality in the term of SRO (1)/2006, dated 05/06/2006 as amended vide SRO 606 (1)2015 dated 30/06/2015 for it’s manufacturing activities, but respondents are not extending the benefit of SRO 565 (1)/2006 as amended.

Petitioner said that with the result he is being compelled to pay regulatory duty at 12% which is not applicable for imports under SRO -565(1)/ 2006. Due to which petitioner shall suffer loss as well as heavy demurrage if the consignment is not released immediately.
