SHC seeks Customs Intelligence comments in Iranian diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday sought comments from the Karachi Customs Intelligence and Investigation additional director in a case pertaining to the smuggling of 21,382 liter of Iranian high speed diesel.

A single judge comprising Justice Munib Akhter heard the application filed by Customs Intelligence where the additional director requested the court for granting him time to file the comments.

Earlier, the counsel of the applicant stated that on credible information, the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency official in coordination with the Customs Intelligence intercepted a fishing launch namely as Dhow Al-Bismillah bearing No BFD- 86 07, in Pakistan Customs water, coastal area Karachi.

He added that during the examination it was found that boat was loaded with 21,382 liter Iranian diesel, stored in well designed tanks concealed in the fish hold beneath, the upper deck.

The authorities had seized the diesel on which the respondent filed an appeal before Customs Appellate Tribunal which was accepted.

Later, the Customs Intelligence challenged the tribunal’s decision in SHC asking to set aside order of the Customs Appellate Tribunal.
