SHC seeks customs reply on M/S A-One Swing Machine’s application

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to revenue division secretary, Appraisement-East collector, Customs Adjudication -II collector and deputy attorney general directing them to file their respective comments on an application filed by M/S A-One Swing Machine Co against the allegation of Rs 7.5 million tax evasion.

The SHC division bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, heard the application.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that petitioner imported a consignment of Orange brand industrial sewing machine needles etc and filed goods declaration and deposited upfront duty and taxes of Rs 1,134,419 on the basis of declared value.

According to the petitioner, the respondents issued a show cause notice to it alleging that after the examination of data fair value of Orange brand industrial sewing machine needles was ascertained to be $44.08 per kilogram.“The Petitioner deliberately and willfully mis-declared value and evade duty and taxes to case huge loss to the national exchequer,” the notice alleged.

The counsel argued that petitioner had fulfilled all the conditions and liabilities. The petitioner asked the SHC to set aside impugned show cause notice.
