KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday summoned the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) investigation officer in a weapons smuggling case to submit his reply to the application of an alleged smuggler seeking his passport.
A single bench of SHC was hearing the application filed by Mamtazuddin, who moved the court challenging the verdict of Special Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court that dismissed his application seeking passport.
The counsel for the accused submitted that his client wanted to meet his family settled in Belgium but he could not travel abroad since his passport was held by the FIA. He requested the court to order the FIA authorities to return the applicant’s passport as it was not the part of the case property.
According to the details of the case, several parts of 9mm were recovered from the personal baggage of Mumtazuddin at Jinnah International Airport on August 21, 2014. During interrogation, he confessed that he used to smuggle unassembled parts of weapons for a NADRA official Col (retd) Hafeez. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against him and his two accomplices.
