KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the Ministry of Defence, Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT) as well as Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and others on different petitions for inquiry commission about leakage of toxic gas alleged from inside Karachi Port Trust (KPT) area or Keamari Town.
On 24 February 2020, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar directed them to file their para wise comments on March 10, 2020 through Additional Attorney General and Advocate General Sindh.
During the hearing, Abdul Jalil Khan Marwart and Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi argued that said incidents badly exposed the inefficiency and mismanagement on the parts of respondents who damaged the image of important institutions in public and specially promoted and showed the incompetency of very important positions among public.
They argued that respondents are responsible to provide protection of life and property to each and every citizen and is liable to safeguard the dignity and respect of every citizen of Pakistan under the constitution of the country.
Citing Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, chairman KPT, home sectary, IGP Sindh and others as respondents, petitioners pleaded the court to direct the secretary of Defence to investigation and inquiry about this important issue through their own sources.
They also pleaded the court may direct all the responsible/ relevant to compensate all the aggrieved persons and families as early as possible.
