SHC sets aside notification of DG Valuation over enhancement of baby diapers, toilet soaps

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) set aside an impugned notification of Director General of Valuation over enhancement of the valuation of baby diapers, toilet soaps, etc on Monday. A two-member bench headed by Justice Munib Akhtar announced the judgment which was earlier reserved.

Earlier, more than 200 importers including M/s. Al-Amin Cera, M/s FAMS Enterprises, M/s United World Corp, M/s Global Trade Link, M/s H.N Brother (Private) Limited, M/s M. Farooq & Brothers, M/s Imperial Trading Corporation, M/s AR Associates, M/s Queen World Trading Company, M/s Business Centre, M/s Berger Paints Pakistan (Private) Limited, M/s HN Brothers, M/s Independent Newspaper, M/s Global Trade Link and others had challenged the impugned notification over enhancement of valuations of baby diapers, toilet soaps, etc.

The court declared its order that Director General of Valuation had no power to enhance valuation of the said goods and only director valuation can exercise the same powers.

The court also dismissed the appeals filed by Customs Department in SHC, challenging order of Customs Appellate Tribunal.
