KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned Collector MCC Appraisement-East Najeeb-ur-Rehman Abbasi, Deputy Collector (R&D) Rizwan Mehmood and Appraiser Dost Muhammad before honorable court on October 24 in contempt of court orders.
Sources informed Customs Today that the Sindh High Court (SHC) on the writ petitions filed by the importers of automotive spare parts against Pakistan Customs officers/officials has issued notices to collector MCC appraisement-East, deputy collector R&D and appraisers to present their view points before court.
SHC has issued contempt notices against the officers/officials of Pakistan Customs in non-release of disputed consignments of automotive spare parts.
“The importers have moved to SHC after detecting a huge tax evasion tune to Rs 80 million approximately in terms of custom duty, sales tax and Income tax by the concerned authorities of Pakistan Customs on import of automotive spare parts,” sources added.
They further disclosed that the Customs Act, 1969 does not allow customs authorities or any honorable court to release the consignments without paying legitimate duty/taxes to the federation.
In this particular case, the SHC has ordered the customs authorities to release the consignments of automotive spare parts without paying differential worth Rs 80 million after detecting tax evasion.
It may be mentioned here that the Appraiser Dost Muhammad has presented before Sindh High Court in person on October 21 in connection with the said case.
