SHC to hear plea filed by M/s Muhammad Hussain and Company on May 5

KARACHI: The  Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought comments from collector of customs, model collectorate of customs East, on an application filed by M/s Muhammad Hussain and Company seeking release order of its consignment of prime hot dipped galvanized steel coils.

A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, was hearing the application and fixed May 5, 2015 for the hearing. During the hearing, deputy attorney general requested for three days’ time to take instructions.

Earlier, the counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner imported a consignment of prime hot dipped galvanized steel coils, standard prime quality JIS G 3302 Sije 1000mm to 1250mm at $360.00/mt from China and filed goods declaration on 7 Jan 2016 by declaring its unit price at $360/mt totaling value of the consignment at $110.912.40.

According to the petitioner, after all formalities when the said goods reached in exit gate, it was stopped by some officials of the respondents, who took it back to port area, re-examined the goods and did not allow it release on baseless grounds.

Citing secretary revenue division, chairman FBR, collector of Customs East counsel pleaded the SHC may declare that act of the respondents illegal, malafide, unjustified and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner.
