KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has transferred a case pertaining to the Valuation Ruling No 863/2016 issued on June 2, 2016 to another bench.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the constitutional petitions filed by M/S Global Trade Links, M/s Asharaf Traders and others.

During the hearing, the court was informed that petitions containing the same subject were being heard by another bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi. Therefore, the court transferred the matter to the bench no 4.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioners stated that petitioners are engaged in the lawful import of toilet soaps from various sources around the world, including Indonesia, Malaysia and the UAE.

According to the petitioners, they are seriously aggrieved and prejudiced by the customs officials who have arbitrarily fixed the customs value of “toilet soaps” in the manner which is contrary to the law and regulations.

Citing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman, the collector of Customs Appraisement West and the Director General of Customs Valuation as respondents, the petitioners pleaded that the court may declare that act of the respondents as illegal, unlawful, arbitrary and of no legal effects.

The importers also pleaded the SHC to set aside the valuation ruling number 863/2016 issued on June 2, 2016.
