ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile Monday elected Senator Shibli Faraz as its chairman.
Faraz had been chairman of committee for last three years also. After Senate elections in March this year, the sub-committee met for the maiden meeting and elected Shibli Faraz as its chairman again. His name was proposed by Senator Islamuddin Sheikh of PPP. The chairman vowed to continue pushing for reducing trade deficit with many countries and also called for an integrated approach in making the trade environment better.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shibli Faraz belongs to Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Well-educated Faraz, holding his M.A International Relations University de Los Andes (1994), is an investment banker by profession and was a Pakistan Air Force pilot and then a civil servant. He has contested the election from Kohat district as mayor in 2002 and his uncle Barrister Syed Masood Kausar had served as the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor and his father Ahmad Faraz is one of country’s acclaimed poets.
Syed Shibli Faraz was elected as a member of senate during the senate elections of 2015. He took the oath and assumed office on 12th March, 2015. His six years long term will end in March 2021. His seat description is General. Currently, he is associated with a number of committees of Senate, namely; the Dilapidated Condition of Bacha Khan Airport, the Right to Information Bill, 2016, Foreign Affairs, Interior and Narcotics Control, Information Technology and Telecommunication, Senate Finance Committee and Issue of Lapse of Various Foreign Scholarships. He also serves as the chairman of Commerce committee. Shibli Faraz joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2011.
