MUMBAI: It was a good year for the Shipping Ministry with the government having taken several initiatives for development of ports, inland water transport, coastal and cruise shipping.
Moreover, the government’s engaging in the development of the strategically located Chahbahar Port in Iran was a major achievement.
Both Iran and India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard.
On December 3, the Phase-1 of Shahid Beheshti Port at Chabahar was inaugurated by the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Since ports are the gateways for EXIM Trade, and to meet the ever increasing trade requirements of the country, the focus has been on the infrastructure development and capacity enhancement of the ports.
