HOUSTON: Shipping traffic resumed on the Houston Ship Channel, one of the world’s busiest waterways, after two days of suspended activity because of Tropical Storm Bill.
The storm, now downgraded to a tropical depression, had also caused precautionary closures of several ports in the offshore Texas parts of the Gulf of Mexico, including Galveston, Port Freeport, Brownsville, Corpus Christi and Victoria.
Most of the offshore oil rigs in the area remained in production throughout the two days of most intense storm weather, although some of them did evacuate non-essential staff to shore.
