Shortage of funds: PWD fails to execute 15 projects in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: The Public Works Department could not complete 15 projects in Islamabad and Rawalpindi manly due to shortage of funds from Accountant General of Pakistan Revenue.

According to the documents available with the state-owned news agency, 12 of the projects are in Islamabad which include improvement and renovation of Supreme Court building, extension of IB Academy at H-11/1, improvement and special repair to blocks allotted to the National Accountability Bureau at G-6, acquisition of land and construction of 48-family suits, construction of residential accommodation for FG employees, five prevention and fire fighting arrangement in Prime Minister’s House, construction of a mosque at the PM Secretariat, construction of 12 apartments in Ministers Enclave, provision of reception, waiting office, guard room and compound wall at Fatima Jinnah Hostel, renovation of government owned flats, allied works of Federal Judicial Academy and anti-shatter proofing of all glass windows, doors and ventilators at Prime Minister’s House at Islamabad.

Three construction projects were in Rawalpindi district which comprises development schemes in 33 union councils of Thesil Gujjar Khan, enhancement of security arrangement of survey of Murree and Rawalpindi, it added.

The documents further revealed that mostly projects were about to complete but due to the shortage of funds the PWD could not meet the deadline of these projects. Safdar Ali, Chief Engineer Planning of Pak-PWD, talking to APP, admitted that the department could not get funds on time as per approved PC-1. He said that the Pak-PWD would complete all the projects as soon as it got funds from the quarters concerned.
