Shortfall of RS80 million: RTO Gujranwala collects Rs860 million taxes in April

SIALKOT:  Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Regional Tax office (RTO) Gujranwala has recovered Rs860 million under the heads of different taxes against its set target of Rs940 million in April, 2015.

RTO Gujranwala collected Rs400 million as sales tax against the set target of Rs640 million with the shortfall of Rs240, Rs460 million as income tax against the set target of Rs299 million with surplus of Rs161 million.

Besides, RTO achieved 100 percent target of Federal Excise Duty (FED) of Rs1 million during April of current fiscal year 2014-15.

According to the FBR officials, the recovery of Rs860 million as different taxes was not able to achieve this official recovery target, as Rs180 million were yet be recovered, in this regard.

RTO Gujranwala has also issued the final recovery notices to all the defaulters including several departments of the government including City District Government Gujranwala, two Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) of Hafizabad district, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Gujranwala, Highways Department, National Savings Centers , several private beverage companies, tiles and ceramics manufacturing factories, steel furnaces and metal factories for the early clearance their outstanding arrears of the taxes, in this regard.

The FBR officials revealed that the FBR Gujranwala has yet recovered Rs9.95 billion taxes during a period from July 1, 2014 to April 30, 2015, including Rs5.61 billion as income tax and Rs4.33 billion as sales tax.

Meanwhile, the Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has miserably failed in recovery of the luxury tax in Gujranwala region as E&T special recovery teams could recovery only Rs2.2 million out of its official target of Rs20 million as luxury tax from the chronic defaulters in Gujranwala Division’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

There were about 110 luxury tax defaulters in this region, which were not paying the luxury taxes of their properties since long, despite the hectic efforts being made by the department here.

Excise official told that most of the defaulters were had political links due to which they never bothered to pay the luxury tax of their luxury properties, in this regard.

On the other hand, the special recovery teams of E&T Gujranwala have recovered Rs1.42 billion in shape of property, motor, registration, entertainment and professional taxes during the ten months of the running fiscal year against the official recovery target of Rs1.94 billion fixed for Gujranwala Division during the fiscal year 2014-15.
