SIALKOT: A joint meeting of Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Customs Intelligence and Investigation held at the Sialkot Model Customs Collectorate to discuss the strategies for curbing the smuggling in the region.
The meeting was arranged following the directions of Sialkot Customs Collector Ahmad Reza and Customs Intelligence director in order to enhance the mutual cooperation against the smugglers who are damaging the national economy adversely.
ASO incharge Assistant Collector Fahad Chaudhary and Customs Intelligence Assistant Director Zainab Mehmood represented their departments respectively.
It was decided in the meeting that both department will put focus on Kashmir trade, which is being used by the smugglers to import Indian goods into Pakistan illegally.
It may mention here that customs officials had recently busted an smuggling attempt and impounded a truck loaded with Indian origin goods, besides arresting two accused persons namely as Nasir Mayo and Muhammad Riaz.
Meanwhile, The Model Customs Collectorate collected Rs 20.42 million in wake of taxes during February of current fiscal year 2015-16.
Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Chaudhary told Customs Today that the Sialkot Customs generated this revenue on export and import consignments, and through auctions of confiscated items.
