SIALKOT: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Zone-I impounded a truck and recovered Indian origin tobacco Hungary and China-made mobile phones as well as smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 10 million
Reportedly, the Sialkot Customs collector got information that a truck bearing registration No IL-8707 is coming from Peshawar loaded with smuggled items that would be supplied to Lahore.
In order to check veracity of information, the collector intimated Superintended Muhammad Naeem Khan who established a check post along with his team, including Inspector Arshad Hussain and Chauhary Abdul Latif on GT Road near Rahwali Gujranwala Cantt.
The team started checking vehicles. Meanwhile, the officials intercepted the truck and recovered 25 carton of Indian origin tobacco, 200 cartons of banned imported cigarettes and 200 mobile phones worth Rs 10.5 million.
During the raid, the team arrested accused persons named Ahmed Noor son of Kazim Khan and Qasim Shah son of Sayed Shah. The team shifted all recovered items to the office of Sialkot Customs along with truck.
The team has registered a case against suspects under customs law while further investigation is underway, in this regard. The team produce accused before the Judicial Magistrate concerned for physical remand that has been granted.
Sialkot Customs Collector Ahmed Raza has announced cash prizes and appreciation certificates for the raiding team including customs inspectors Arshad Hussain and Ch. Abdul Latif and Superintendent Muhammad Naeem Khan.
