Sialkot ASO impounds vehicles, goods worth Rs 6m

SIALKOT: All zones of the Customs Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) impounded four dubious trucks which were loaded with smuggled mobile phones, smuggled Indian tobacco, cigarettes, cloth and shampoos worth Rs 6 million from July 10 to August 10, 2016.

Officials said that all the three zones are being headed by Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro and Deputy Collector Muhammad Hanif who launched anti-smuggling campaign following the directions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The officials played a vital role in curbing smuggling during the period.

The deputy directors along with their team comprising Superintendents Muhammad Naeem Khan, Sohail Butt, Inspectors Arshad Mayo, Amjad, Asad and Iftikhar, and other lower staff worked round the clock to tighten noose around smuggler, they informed, adding that continuous efforts made by them yielded better results.

During the said period, the customs officials impounded four truck carrying smuggled items, including 12,000 cell phones, Indian origin tobacco, cigarettes, clothe and shampoos worth Rs 6 million.

The customs registered cases against truck drivers and others, besides sending cases to the adjudication for further legal action. The seized items will be auctioned after decision of the adjudication authority, if made in favour of the department.

When contacted Additional Collector Faiz Ali, he told Customs Today that Collector Ahmed Reza Khan observed performance of the ASO and announced cash prizes and appreciation certificates for the officials.
