SIALKOT: The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Sialkot’s all other main trade bodies have strongly criticized the government for a recent increase in the POL prices asking the government to withdraw increase in the larger national interest.

SCCI Vice-President Abid Ahmed Khawaja said the massive increase in the POL prices by the government in the beginning of the New Year 2018 is not less than a drone-attack on the national economy.

He said the increase in POL prices will bring a storm of price-hike in the country as it would increase the cost of business and cost of production of the export products, which would not be able to compete in the international markets. The Sialkot-exporters are already battling for their survival in the international markets.

Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PSGMEA) and Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PGMEA) have also expressed grave concern over the increase in the POL prices.

Instead of giving any trade and export related incentives to the country’s export sector, the government has bombed them with a big hike in the POL prices. He exhorted the government to withdraw this increase in the larger national interest.
