Sialkot Customs collects Rs 1.35m through GPO

SIALKOT: The Customs Collectorate has collected Rs 1.35 million in taxes levied on cargo booked through the General Post Office (GPO), Sialkot, during August and September 2016.

The customs officials handled the cargo worth Rs 1.15 million sent through the GPO during the fiscal year 2015-16. The Customs Department generated duty to the tune of Rs 90,701 during the same period. The Customs Department has appointed special teams at the GPO to monitor the cargo to eliminate smuggling of illegal items, as the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized smuggled items many times. Customs Superintendent Muhammad Naeem is responsible for the collection of duty tax at the GPO.

Customs officials told Customs Today that the revenue collection by GPO Sialkot is much better by the Customs Collectorate. He said that the Customs Department is collecting reasonable revenue to strengthen the national exchequer. He said that the officers and officials of Customs Department hard working to achieve target whereas the performance of all is satisfactory. Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Nisar Muhammad Khan and Customs Authorities have appreciated the performance and work of Customs Collectorate Sialkot.
