Sialkot Customs Preventive foils bid to smuggle heroin at airport

SIALKOT: The Customs Preventive staff has arrested a passenger with 400 grams of high quality heroin. He was going to Sharjah from Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL).

Reportedly, Feroze Ali, a resident of Charssada, was going to Sharjah through a private airline when the customs staff intercepted him and checked all his body, clothes and luggage. The official recovered 400 grams of heroin from his bag on which the suspect was arrested on the spot.

Sialkot Customs Preventive staff incharge at airport Deputy Collector Muhammad Ilyas told Customs Today that the department was performing its duty vigilantly in order to stop smuggling and money laundering at the airport.

The smuggling and money laundering, which are bringing huge losses to national exchequer, will not be tolerated at any level, he said, adding that effective planning has been adopted to weed out it.

He said that the Customs Preventive officials have been directed to check every VVIP, VIP and other passengers at the airport, as there is no exemption for any one under the rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Chaudhary said that the Customs Preventive is performing duty honestly whereas the officials are alert against smuggling and money laundering round the clock.

He said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has strictly instructed all collectors to designate honest and unbiased staff on airports in order the curb the menace of smuggling.

Superintendent Sardar Manzoor said that the Customs Preventive officials were performing their duty honestly, besides tightening checking of passengers.
